1Password - What good is it anyways?

What good is it? Tons.

I got this app back in 2006 as part of the first MacHeist bundle. I thought then, “Hmm, kinda cool I guess.” But as my life has become even more mobile with the use of my iPhone, I quickly realized the need to keep my passwords, and other important info with me where ever I go. A cursory Google search revealed not a WHOLE lot that synced with my mac. 1Password came up on the list as a piece of software that syncs sensitive info between mac and iPhone. I’ve been using it all day today. It’s great. Check it out.

Yeah, so I almost openly wept today. After taking our boat out on the lake w/ some potential buyers, I left my phone on top of my boat, and drove off. I didn’t realize it till I got home. We went back to the ramp, and there it was in the middle of the road. It wasn’t a good scene.

Well, like my wife said, this may just be what I needed to convince her I needed the 3G iPhone to hopefully be released next week. Until then…I’m sporting a little Samsung phone she used to use. This is shaping up to be a great week.

Oh, and by the way, the people bought the boat.

Was watching some MacGyver today. Check out this phone! Kinda off topic I guess. But still kinda deals with technology. Sure would like to see what kind of web hosting this guy does. Amazing.

Carbon WhatPrint?!

So, me and a friend were talking about Carbon Footprints. He drives about 110 miles roundtrip every day. That just seems crazy to me. I did it for about a year, but quickly realized that the 10 hours a week spent in the car was worth moving over.

Anyways, I’ve purchased a new home, and am trying to rent out my current place. I live about 1/2 a mile from work. So that means I’m driving, on average, one mile per day. Let’s do the math:

Let’s say you have a car that gets about 30 miles per gallon, and you pretty much just drive to work and back (stopping on the way at the local grocery store, etc). So, you’re doing 5 days a week times 4 weeks equals 20 days you’re driving to work. So, theoretically you could go all month on a gallon of gas. Let’s then say that you have about a 13 gallon tank. So…how does going a year on a tank of gas sound?

It, of course, never works out that way. But it sounds good. There are people who get to walk to work. I guess I would if it wasn’t 98 degrees every day in the summer. Nothing like feeling like you’ve sat in a sauna all day THEN going to work.

Ecto

I’m using Ecto now. If you’re not on a Mac. Get one. Yeah, yeah, elitist. Fine.

So, I’ll be putting it through it’s paces over the next few weeks. Mere promises you say? Perhaps. A cursory look at the sporadic nature of my blog will quickly reveal my level of dedication. I need some motivation really. Maybe the idea of getting to try out cool software (web and desktop) will be enough to persuade me to write more.

Spanning Sync 2.0

This is shaping up to be a great piece of software.

I was just thinking how Busy Sync would be my choice to sync calendars between iCal and Google Calendar. Well, with the 2.0 release of Spanning Sync, they bring on the contact syncing!

This rocks. Now all my contacts are synced up, and it’s two-way capable.

Merry Christmas!

Cheap. Impersonal. Lazy.

Yeah, you could call it that. But let’s look at three alternatives:

Frugal. Innovative. Universal.

In any event, here’s my online Christmas card. Never let it be said that Jesse Haynes doesn’t care about the environment. Perhaps this electronic Christmas card will play a small role in the ongoing initiative to save the rain forests.

Voice and/or Video Chat

12.16.07 | Permalink | 1 Comment

Did I mention I got a new MacBookPro? Well, more on that later. Right now, I’m trying to figure out how to best implement a voice/video chat setup. I used to use iChat, then I switched to Adium, then most recently, moved to Meebo.com. I like Meebo, since it basically keeps all my chat logs in sync. I’ve got Leopard now, so iChat is looking awfully nice. So I fired it up today. Big problem…I can’t connect to Yahoo! or MSN networks. I’ve got a few friends that just won’t play nice, and grab themselves an AIM acct. Slackers, that’s all I can say. So what should I do? Anyone? I guess if I want to use video chat, I probably have to use iChat. I also have a Skype account. I like the audio quality with that. Anyone got a camera and a Skype account that we can try out the video features? Get my contact info here, I’d love to hear how you use voice/video. Or you can just leave a comment on this post.

FreshBooks Invoicing App

12.15.07 | Permalink | 3 Comments

I signed up for FreshBooks tonight. A friend of mine uses it, and recommended it. Man, too mad it costs $14, and I recently purchased Billings. This has recurring billing though, and offers a client login page. I think my clients will dig that. What apps do you guys use for billing/invoicing?
